Your listening history is personal even when the records are public. Here’s what TealView reads, what stays on your device, and when it connects to other services.
The short version
TealView is an independent iOS app for exploring public Teal.fm listening records. You enter a public handle, and the app reads that profile’s listening history. You do not create a TealView account or give TealView an account password.
Listening history, settings, and derived insights are stored on your device. TealView has no developer-operated service that receives a copy of your listening database, and includes no advertising, tracking, or analytics SDK. It does make network requests to the services described below to retrieve public records, artwork, and music links.
Public listening history
When you connect a handle or refresh, TealView resolves the handle and its public AT Protocol identity, finds the profile’s personal data server, and reads its public listening records. These records can include track, artist, and album names, play times, durations, and MusicBrainz identifiers.
Identity requests may go to Bluesky’s public handle-resolution service, the PLC directory, a domain hosting a did:web identity, and the profile’s personal data server. Those services receive the requested handle or identifier and normal connection information such as your IP address. Their own policies apply to those requests.
TealView reads public records. It does not post, edit, delete, or make private records public on your AT Protocol account. Hiding an artist, album, or track inside TealView changes the app’s local view; it does not change the public source records.
Local storage & deletion
TealView stores a local listening database, calculated summaries, sync checkpoints, exclusions, and preferences. It also caches album artwork, artist photos, and resolved Apple Music links to make repeat visits faster. File timestamps are used to manage files in the app’s own cache and export directories, not to identify you.
A small summary is shared with the TealView widget through the app’s on-device app group. Your device and Apple’s backup services may include app data in backups, depending on your system settings.
Use Forget this profile in TealView’s settings to clear the connected profile’s local listening history, exclusions, sync state, scheduled notifications, and widget summary. Public artwork and music-link caches can remain until they expire, iOS removes them, or you delete the app. Generated collage files are temporary. Images you have saved to Photos or shared elsewhere remain in those destinations until you delete them there.
For changes to the public records themselves, use the service where you created them. Forgetting a profile in TealView does not delete records from Teal.fm or an AT Protocol server.
Artwork & music services
To find matching images and links, TealView may send artist and album names, song search terms, or MusicBrainz identifiers to external music services. These requests can reveal which music is being looked up. The recipient also receives normal network information such as your IP address.
- Apple Music and the iTunes Search API: artist photos, album artwork, catalog matching, and music links. Apple’s content-delivery services supply the images. Apple’s privacy policy.
- MusicBrainz: album/release metadata when an artwork match needs a fallback. MetaBrainz’s privacy policy.
- Cover Art Archive and Internet Archive: cover images associated with releases or release groups, including redirects to their image-delivery hosts. Internet Archive’s terms and privacy information.
These providers may keep their own request logs under their policies. TealView does not use the requests for advertising or cross-app tracking. Opening an Apple Music link hands you to Apple Music or a browser, where Apple’s policies apply. Cached images and links can remain available without making a new request each time.
Optional permissions
Apple Music
The Enable artist photos action requests Apple’s system MusicKit permission. The system describes this as access to Apple Music, music and video activity, and your media library. TealView uses the permission for catalog lookups and artist photos; it does not import, modify, or upload your personal media library. Music links can fall back to public Apple Music search when this access is unavailable.
Photos & sharing
Saving a collage requests add-only Photos access. TealView adds the image you choose to save; it does not browse or read your existing photo library. Sharing a PNG opens the system share sheet. The destination you select receives that image under its own policies.
Notifications
If enabled, daily-memory notifications are scheduled locally on your device. TealView does not operate a remote push-notification server. You can decline or revoke optional permissions in iOS Settings and continue using the app’s listening-history features.
TestFlight & support
If you install a beta through TestFlight, Apple may collect and share beta-testing information with the developer, including crash reports, usage information, and feedback you submit. This is separate from analytics inside TealView. Screenshots and comments you send may include listening information, so check them before submitting. Apple’s TestFlight privacy information.
